Scheibalgspü is Didi on vocals, guitar and harmonica, and Martin on vocals, ukulele and keyboard. We have known each other for what feels like forever and have been making music together for almost as long. What began as a deep rooted passion for “The Boss”, Bruce Springsteen, has developed over the years into a distinctive musical journey through Vienna. It all started with the desire to bring the energy and storytelling of Bruce Springsteen to our home city. We did not simply play his songs. We translated their mood and spirit into something Viennese. These first attempts led to numerous reinterpretations of American rock songs in the Viennese dialect. We combined the grand sound of faraway places with the local character of Vienna’s streets and neighbourhoods. Today, Scheibalgspü is much more than a “translation agency”. Our repertoire now includes numerous original songs that are deeply rooted in Viennese culture. They tell stories about the city, its people and everyday life. They are humorous, thoughtful and shaped by that typically Viennese sense of morbid charm that makes life here so unique. In 2025, we captured this attitude to life on our first album, “Amoi da King”. A special milestone in our history came on 2 May 2024, when we received an award for a project that is particularly close to our hearts at the Commercial Film & Music Award. Our song “Mensch is Mensch” won first place in the category “Best Music”. This inclusion project was created in close cooperation with Jugend am Werk. Together with participants from the Altmannsdorf day centre, we recorded the song at Tonherd studio and produced a music video directed by Ernst Spießberger of Zitronenwasser FILM. Parts of the video were filmed at the 2023 Fairness Football Cup. For us, this Gold Award is more than a trophy. It confirms our belief that music can break down barriers and bring people together.
